Coffee Shops

While Starbucks is always a viable option for that caffeine fix before work, Nashville offers many local choices to imbibe on espresso.  Whether your morning alarm sounds off in Green Hills or East Nashville, there are baristas tucked in every corner of Music City to help you kick off a successful day with coffee in tow.


Barista Parlor:  Barista Parlor has three locations.  You can visit Barista Parlor Golden Sound in the Gulch, Barista Parlor Germantown, or head to East Nashville for the Barista Parlor on Gallatin.  Each features a unique vibe.  Golden Sound has many murals nearby that are worth a photo-op.  East Nashville is a car shop turned barista haven.  Germantown has a retro décor that will transport you back in time.  Try the whiskey caramel latte and pair it with their famous flaky biscuits for a savory/sweet combination.


Headquarters:  If you're into cozy spots to enjoy your cup of Joe, head to Headquarters on Charlotte Pike.  They source their beans from 8th & Roast.  As a small shop, they are constantly creating unique drinks.  Try one of their specialties like the Cherry Refresho or the Lavender Latte.


Thistle Farm Café:  If you're an avid coffee drinker, why not sip for a good cause?  The Thistle Farm Café is an extension of the non-profit organization that employs women that survived violence, drugs, and prostitution.  Coining the mantra "Love Heals Every Body," the company produces handmade home and body products featured in the café and local businesses.  The café is undergoing a revitalization, but will reopen in late summer 2017.


Sam & Zoe's:  This is the second oldest coffee shop in Nashville and honored as a top spot for cheap breakfast in Music City.  They feature breakfast burritos and the homemade quiche is a must try when you stop by.


Ugly Mugs Coffee and Tea:  This East Nashville coffee spot in nestled in Eastland Avenue shops.  Ugly Mugs stays open until 10pm, long surpassing the normal business hours for most local coffee shops.  It's also walking distance from other Nashville staples like Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams, Five Daughters Bakery, and Rosepepper Cantina.  They feature live music every Saturday at 6pm.


8th & Roast:  This 8th South neighborhood coffee shop hand selects coffee directly from farmers.  They feature seasonal drinks such as the Honey Lavender Latte, Sol Lei Latte, and Ginger Latte.


Red Bicycle:  Red Bicycle is known not only for its coffee selection, but a variety of crepes.  With two locations to choose from (Germantown and Woodbine), you must stop in to try one of the over 40 different crepe selections, ranging from savory to sweet.  Try the Maple Bacon Crepe or a Funky Monkey with peanut butter, banana, Nutella, and walnuts.  You can even create your own!


Frothy Monkey:  Frothy Monkey just expanded with a new location in The Nations, but you can visit in Franklin, downtown on 5th, or in 12th South.  Frothy Monkey offers popular signature drinks like Monkey Mocha, Golden Monkey, Turtle Latte, and Rosemary Honey Latte, along with a healthy dose of seasonal drinks.  They also offer wine tasting events in the evening, so be on the lookout for their next wine event!


Three Brothers Coffee:  Located in West Nashville across the street from Centennial Park, this shop makes it convenient to grab some coffee and take a walk in the park.  If you want to hang out for a bit, you can also snap some photos in the black and white mural by the front entrance.  They feature bagels from Star Bagels and they feature various roasters like Bongo Java.


BOX - Bongo + Bakery on 10th:  BOX sells Bongo coffee and makes signature drinks Purple Rain, Luau, Impeached, and PNW.  They are located near the 12th South neighborhood so it's the perfect stop to make before heading out for some local shopping.  They serve breakfast and lunch, including avocado toast and sweet potato biscuits.


Bongo Java:  Bongo is Nashville's oldest coffeehouse and is heralded as a meeting spot for students, locals, and musicians.  Located in the Belmont/Hillsboro, Bongo Java found fame in 1996 for the Nun Bun, a cinnamon bun that resembled Mother Teresa.  There is also a theater upstairs open after hours for music and theater.


Post East:  A popular setting for the show Nashville, this East Nashville coffee shop has beautiful wooden décor and features rotating art with canvasses all over the back wall.  Post East specializes in gluten-free, vegan, and organic options.  It's located across the street from the popular Olive and Sinclair Chocolate Company.


Café Roze:  This all day café located in East Nashville features a large variety of breakfast dishes and bowls.  Whether you're in the mood for avocado hummus toast or waffles, Café Roze has you covered.


Dose:  Dose has two locations in Riverside Village and the West End.  They even have a Dose truck that can be purchased for events.  Their Rosemary Biscuit will have you coming back.


CREMA:  CREMA offers coffee classes to those coffee drinkers that want to evolve to coffee efficiandos.   CREMA honors farmers by getting their coffee directly from the growers.  They built this coffee shop from the ground up (literally)! 


Dunn Brothers Coffee:  Dating back to 1987, this store only roasts small batches each day so coffee beans are never more than five days old.  They serve up many options from Infinite Black Cold Press to Blended Frappes, there's a choice for all coffee lovers.


Garage Coffee Company:  Located in Marathon Village, this shop has been featured in Southern Living.  If you're looking for a local shop with a unique ambience, Garage Coffee has automobile memorabilia and a rustic feel that sets it apart from your typical coffee shop.  Known for their "Road Rage" roast, GCC features a bold, rich taste that you have to experience for yourself.


ZolliKoffee:  Another coffee shop located 8th Avenue South, ZolliKoffee has Krispy Treats that will have coffee goers reminiscing about their favorite childhood treats.  They're also bike friendly, offering bike racks and fixes for flats. 


Fido:  Fido is Nashville's largest purchaser of local ingredients.  This pet shop turned coffee spot serves breakfast dishes as well as Bongo coffee.  It's a great pit stop while you're doing some Hillsboro Village shopping.


The Well Coffeehouse:  "Where Coffee Changes Lives" The Well takes profits and donates to impoverished countries for clean drinking water.  Check out locations on Granny White Pike in Nashville or the Brentwood branch to drink for a good cause.


Steadfast Coffee:  This Germantown establishment reinvents their menu every season to keep your tastebuds delighted all year long.  They also offer Happy Hour during the week with beer and wine, making it a great post-work destination.


Flatrock Coffee, Tea, & More:  This Nolensville area coffee shop features live music on Saturday nights.  With vegan/vegetarian options and local products, everyone can find something to their liking on the menu.


Slow Hand Coffee:  Known for their incredible pastries and baked goods, this shop is worth a stop for the bacon cheddar jalapeno muffin alone!


Just Love Coffee:  If social justice is your thing, Just Love Coffee donates to local charities so you can spread some love along with the aroma of coffee beans.  They feature coffee from Africa, Central and South America, and Asia.


Café Coco:  This coffee joint is open 24/7 Thursday through Saturday and until midnight the rest of the week.  There are coffee and beer selections that you can enjoy under the covered patio.
