#RiversideVillageMural

You could argue that Andee Rudloff's philosophy states that art should be created for the people, by the people.  The talented artist comes up with a theme that reflects the community and uses that message to guide her brushstrokes.  Rudloff also invites citizens to take part in filling in the color of each canvas.  In Nashville, you'll find several works by this dynamic artist.  Community members and Rudloff have collided to create the Riverside Village mural, the Hillsboro Village mural, a work for the East Nashville Tomato Festival, and numerous school paintings.

If you take a close look at these murals, you'll notice iconic symbols and representations of the various neighborhoods.  Rudloff enjoys highlighting what makes these alcoves across Music City so special.  In the Riverside Village mural, you can pick out the Pedestrian Bridge that stylizes the skyline of Nashville (as well as the Batman building in the background!), a myriad of guitar motifs to honor the songwriting community, and several food/drink icons to represent the surrounding local shops.  For instance, right across the street you can enjoy coffee at Dose, or grab some beer/wine at the Village Pub and Beer Garden.

Similarly in Hillsboro Village, you can see an "H" emblem for the bustling neighborhood, pizza slices (the mural is painted on the side of Kay Bob's restaurant and is a short walk to many others), two people holding hands, and various modes of transportation.  The vibrant colors and transportation hub theme represent the vivaciousness of Nashville and the growth of the capital into a city like no other.

Rudloff takes time and consideration of the locality of each painting to create a work of art that citizens can not only take part in painting, but appreciate as a local symbol.  The thick black outlines and bold pops of color offer such a playful visual commentary on each space.  As Nashvillians, we know that every neighborhood buzzes with its own pulse and distinctive features.  Every time I pass by a Rudloff work, I notice something new in the collage of images.  She draws her audience in by asking them to partake in an experience, and leaves them with a product that tickles the senses with each passing.
